Seven Against Gaea

Creative Arts, Research, And Scholarship (CARAS) Grant  | Summer 2022 | Faculty Mentor: Lindsay Goss

Seven Against Gaea is an immersive digital play, and a modern sci-fi adaptation of Aeschylus’, Seven Against Thebes. It follows the play-within-a-play structure, as the “Chorus Leader,” “Chorus,” and audience become both actors in and audience to Ismene XXVII’s recorded account. The play is written to utilize YouTube as a streaming platform, and is performed through three different mediums: a pre-recorded video of Ismene XXVII’s speech, Reifield’s live-streamed reactions, and the live chat’s discussion. Prior to streaming, the play is only promoted by in-character social media posts. Before, during, and after the live-stream, there is no indication that the events of the play are fictional.
